The great scientist Albert Einstein didn't seem to be bright when he was young. No one ever thought that shy, young Albert would grow up to change the world. {P}_{\mathbf{H}\mathbf{e}} was so slow in learning to speak that he was considered a bit dull. Here is the story of his youth.

He answered slowly because he was a thinker. And he asked difficult questions, which made his teachers think that he was trying to make trouble. However, young Einstein did learn what interested him. {\mathfrak{P}}_{\mathbf{H}\mathbf{e}} was interested in what lay below the surface of things. When he was five, for instance, his father gave him a compass with a moving needle. This made Albert Einstein curious about the unseenforces that could keep a compass needle always pointing north. ? When he was a teenager, he read a lot aboutscienceandhehadalreadystartedto wonderaboutthemysteriesoftheuniverse. When he was 17,Einstein entered the Polytechnic Institute in Zurich, Switzerland, where he studied mathematics and physics. He stayed away from many lectures and did not impress his professors, but he was actually studying very hard all the time. When he graduated in 190o, he asked to be an assistant in the physics department but was refused.

W: I only drive once a month. {\mathbb{P}}\mathbf{I} often ride my bicycle to my office.I also take the bus once a week.
M:That's surprising. A car is really useful. @I drive my car almost every day, even for long trips.
W:I used to be like you, but for very long trips, I would take a train or an airplane. Driving is not goodfor the environment, and it takes a long time.
M.That's true.
W:If you ride a bike to work, you will save a lot of money.
M:And it is much safer. Cycling really has a lot of good things about it.
W:To be safe, don't forget to buy a helmet for your head.
M.I will. Can you show me where to buy it?
W: Yes, of course. Let's go to a sports shop now.

M:Have you seen the new show that everyone's talking about? It's called Stranger Things. I watched it this weekend, and it was so cool!
W:I haven't seen it yet, but yeah, everyone is talking about it! What's it about?
M? Well, it's sort of a science fiction tale about a boy who gets caught in the “upside down" the opposite world of ours. There are monsters and spiders, action, and even comedy. The coolest part is that most of the actors are kids of our age! You should check it out.

W: What changes do you think will take place in the next 100 years?
M:I think the greatest change is that it will be harder to tell the difference between humans and machines.
W:Can you describe it more clearly?
M: Sure. ? As science develops, the computer will work like the human brain. The computer can recognise one's feelings and act in a feeling way.
W:Do you mean man-made human beings will be produced? Come on! That's out of the question!
M: That's my personal imagination.
W: Well, go on please. I'm interested in it.
M:We will be able to invent machines that are copies of ourselves. We can be able to live after we are dead.
W ? What a ridiculous idea!
M:It's possible that a way will be found to put our spirit into a new body. Then, we can choose to live as long as we want.
W:In that case, the world would be a hopeless mess.
M: Well, how about going to the library and read some science books?
W:Sounds great!

W: @I'm working on an article about growing older. Can you give me some tips?
M:Err ... I can tell you how I feel about it.
W:Sure, go ahead.
M: As I am older, I get a better understanding of the world. It's not as simple as I thought 10 years ago.
W : So is life getting better or worse in your eyes?
M: I'd say I'm getting better at enjoying the present.
W: What about other people? Do you think they all agree with you?
M:I can't say, but it seems that lots of people get better with age.
W:I see. But I find it hard to get older.
M:It's natural. Nobody would refuse to stay young, but you will understand more about the world.
W: Thank you. What you've said does help me a lot.
M:Well, I hope so. Good luck to you!

CrashDetect app automatically monitors your trips using its “smart drive-detection" functionality. It is able to detect a serious car crash simply by using a certain sensor inyour phone that measures the g-force of an impact. The app then points the driver's location and sends to the nearest ambulance—complete with medical workers that knowthe user's medical history—automatically.
Smartphone alert systems are also being used for personal security as well.
As well as a “Help Me” button, the OTR app offers a“Track Me”service that allows users' friends and family to track their progress while travelling, and be aware if they have met unusual conditions, for example.
"Many safety apps were introduced in the market but without dedicated response teams, hence they were of not much use,” says the chief executive. @“Family safety is the biggest concern of the working class these days. But we give our users a reason to feel safe at all times and have a peace of mind. Huanglong is a beautiful natural area in the north of Sichuan,China. It is located in the southern part of the Minshan mountain range, 370 kilometres from the capital Chengdu. The Huanglong Valley is a special attraction here. Huanglong got its name from a chain of pools that flow through the valley. From a distance, the river looks like a huge golden dragon. The main body of water starts from the ancient temple at the top of the valley. {\mathbb{\stackrel{\tiny~registered~}{\tiny~mu}}}{\bf\Lambda} runs 2.5 kilometres to the north in the 7. 5 kilometre -long valley. In Huanglong, the soft mineral, which is colourless or white, deposited from hot springs, formed a type of rock over thousands of years. This mineral gives the water its various shades of green, blue, brown and mainly yellow.
The waterway with its jewel-coloured pools flows between peaks full of snow like a great yellow dragon wandering through the mountain. There are about 3,400 of these natural pools throughout the valley. Some are quite large, and some are no bigger than a bowl of soup. All, however, are only for viewing. In order to protect the landscape, visitors are discouraged from going into the water. There is more than enough nature to enjoy, though, as Huanglong is also home to several endangered animals, including the panda and the Sichuan golden monkey.

When friends come to visit us in the evening, very often they seem in a hurry and look at their watches. It isn't that our friends are all very busy.It is just that we haven't got a television. People think that we are very strange.“But what do you do in the evenings?" they are always asking. The answer is simple. Both my wife and I have hobbies. We certainly don't spend our evenings staring at the walls. My wife enjoys cooking, sewing and painting and often attends evening classes in foreign languages. This is particularly useful as we always go abroad for our holidays. I collect stamps, coins and pictures and am always busy with my collection. Both of us enjoy listening to music, singing and playing chess together. Sometimes there're power cuts and we have no electricity in the house. This does not worry us as we just light candles and carry on with what we were doing before. {\mathfrak{G}}_{\mathbf{0ur}} friends arelost—notelevision!Sotheydon't know what to do. On such evenings our house is very full as they all come to us. They all have a good time.Instead of sitting in silence in front of the television, everybody talks and plays games. {}^{\otimes}{\bf Y e s} , life is certainly possible without television.

W:Body language, like spoken language,is different in different cultures.

I've attended evening classes and been on what they call painting “holidays". I've enjoyed painting in lots of different countries. I've been to Morocco and painted desert scenes with beautiful sunrises.

Facial expressions carry different meanings. For example, in American culture the smile is in general an expression of pleasure. A woman's smile at a police officer does not carry the same meaning as the smile she gives to a young child. A smile may show love or politeness. It can also hide true feelings. For example, many people in Russia consider smiling at strangers in public to be unusual and even improper.YetmanyAmericans smilefreely at strangers in public places. Some Russians believe that Americans smile in the wrong places; some Americans believe that Russians don't smile enough. {}^{\mathfrak{G}}\mathbf{In} southeast Asian cultures, a smile is frequently used to cover painful feelings.Vietnamese people may tell a sad story but end the story with a smile.

The US bought Alaska from Russia about 100 years ago. ? The US paid less than two cents an acre. One Alaska island is only two miles from a Russian island. The nearest state is Washington, 500 miles away.

Alaska's fish catch is one of the biggest of all the states. {\mathfrak{P}}\mathbf{M}\mathbf{ost} of Alaska's land is still owned by the US government, instead of by people or businesses.
Alaska is the biggest state, but it has the fewest people. Towns are far apart. Long roads cost alot tobuild in such a wild country. So there aren't many roads. Many people use planes to travel in the state. Others travel in boats along the coast.Rivers freeze in winter, but boats travel on them after the ice melts.

W:What does that mean?
M: It means that he is helping to provide water to a very dry area.
