基础知识建构

【词法精选】

1. litter

(1) litter 作不可数名词时,意为“垃圾;废弃物”。如:There are no more people

throwing litter in public places. 不再有人在公共场所扔垃圾了。

(2) litter作动词时,意为“乱扔”。如:Don?t litter in parks(. 不及物)不要在公园里

乱扔东西。Ask him not to litter paper everywhere(. 及物)让他不要到处扔纸屑。

2. cost

辨析:cost、spend、take与pay

四者均可用作动词,都有“花费”之意。

cost(cost, cost):常用句式为“sth. cost(s)(sb.)some money”,指某物花费(某人)

一些钱。

spend(spent, spent):常用句式为“sb. spend(s)time/money on sth.”“sb. spend(s)

time/money doing sth.”,指某人在某事(物)上花费时间/金钱。

take(took, taken):常用句式为“It takes sb. some time to do sth.”,指做某事花费某

人一些时间。

pay(paid, paid):常用句式为“sb. pay(s)some money for sth.”,指某人为某物花费

一些钱。如:I spent 50 yuan on the backpack. =The backpack cost me 50 yuan. =I

paid 50 yuan for the backpack. 这个背包花了我 50 元。It took the workers 2 years

to build the palace. =The workers spent 2 years building the palace. 修建这座宫殿

花费了工人们两年的时间。

注 意 :cost 作 名 词 时 ,意 为“ 费 用 ;成 本 ”。 如 :The cost of running a car is

increasing. 养车费用越来越高。

3. afford

afford作动词,意为“承担得起(后果);买得起”,后面可跟名词、代词或动词不定

式作宾语。常与 can、could、be able to等连用,表示在能力、经济或时间上能承受

或做到某事,多用于否定句中。如:He can?t afford to buy a new mobile phone. 他

买不起一部新手机。

【句法精析】

1. So together, our actions can make a difference and lead to a better future! 因此,我们

齐心协力就能带来变化,创造更加美好的未来!

make a difference意为“起作用;有影响”,difference前可用big、great等修饰,表示

影响的程度。“make a difference to ...”是指“对……产生影响”。如:You made me

feel important and showed me that I could make a difference. 你让我觉得我很重要,

让我知道我可以有所作为。The accident has made a great difference to her. 这次

事故对她产生了重大影响。

2. Not only can the art bring happiness to others, but it also shows that even cold, hard

iron can be brought back to life with a little creativity. 艺术不但可以给他人带来快

乐,而且也说明只需要一点创造力,即便是冰冷、坚硬的铁也可以产生活力。

当“not only ... but(also)...”用来连接两个句子且 not only置于句首时,前半句应

该用倒装句(部分倒装)。如:Not only does she study English, but she also studies

German.她不仅学习英语,而且还学习德语。

【语法精讲】

现在时态

现在时态包括三种时态:一般现在时、现在进行时和现在完成时。

(1) 一般现在时。

①表示客观真理。如:The earth revolves around the sun. 地球绕着太阳转。

②表示长期存在的情况。如:He likes music very much. 他很喜欢音乐。

③表示经常发生的动作或存在的状态。如:He often visits his grandparents. 他常看

望他的爷爷奶奶。

(2) 现在进行时。

①表示现在正在进行的动作。如:My mother is cooking in the kitchen. 我妈妈正在厨

房做菜。

②表示近期打算的动作。如:I?m meeting my teacher tonight. 今晚我要去见我的老师。

③表示反复进行的动作(往往带有感情色彩)。如:She is always talking about you.

她总是谈论你。

注意:有些动词不宜用进行时态,如like、want、believe、know等。

(3) 现在完成时。

①表示反复的动作对现在的影响。如:I have seen the movie five times. 这部电影我

②常和现在完成时连用的时间状语有 already、yet、ever、never、before、so far、up to

now、since then、in/over the past/last few years、in recent years、just等。

The human population keeps growing, and all those people need to eat. But

farmers already use up too much land. According to a 2019 report from the

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC), people use 72% of the world?s

ice-free land to produce food, clothing and energy. When we clear land for these

purposes, we worsen wild areas and the climate change.

How can we feed everybody without using up more land? One answer is

vertical farming. This is the practice of growing plants indoors. The plants get the

nutrients(营养)they need from circulating water or fog. They get light from lamps

(灯). The environment of growing plants indoors is so carefully controlled, vertical

farmers don ? t have to deal with bad weather or diseases. They can grow food

anywhere, in any season, and more quickly than normal. That sounds unbelievable.

However, several big problems have stopped vertical farms from popping up

everywhere. First of all, these farms need lots of electricity. Most of it goes into

lighting and temperature control. This electricity often comes from fossil fuels(化石

燃料), which means that these farms may not be as environment-friendly as they

seem.

The high electricity use leads to another problem. These farms cost a ton of

money to build and run. Only plants that grow very quickly in a small space produce

enough food to cut down the high cost. Scientists want something that produces just

as much food on a smaller plant and in shorter time. To succeed, they will likely

have to use genetic engineering. That means they?d change the genes(基因)of the

plant to make it grow the right way. The resulting food would be a GMO. Science

shows that GMOs are safe to eat. But some customers aren?t willing to buy them.

【语法精讲】

1. 过去完成时与现在完成时的区别

现在完成时表示动作发生在过去,但侧重强调对现在产生的结果或造成的影响,

与现在有关,其结构为“助动词(have/has)+过去分词”;过去完成时则是一个相

对的时态,它所表示的动作不仅发生在过去,更强调“过去的过去”,只有和过去

某个时间或某个动作相比较时,才用到它。如:I have learned 1,000 English

words so far. 到目前为止我已经学会了一千个英语单词。I had learned 1,000

English words by last year. 到去年为止我已经学会了一千个英语单词。

2. 过去完成时与一般过去时的区别

虽然这两种时态都表示过去发生的动作或存在的状态,但在使用时应注意以下

几点:

(1) 时间状语不同。过去完成时在时间上强调“过去的过去”;而一般过去时只

强调过去某一特定的时间。如:They arrived in Hong Kong at ten last night. 他们

昨晚十点钟到达香港。They had arrived in Hong Kong by ten last night. 他们昨晚

十点钟以前已经到达香港。

(2) 在没有明确的过去时间状语作标志时,谓语动词动作发生的时间先后须依

When I woke up, my mouth was full of sand and the sun was shining brightly. I
