Temporal Emotions

We provide clarity on human perceptions of water, land and air change in London through three questions, by looking at these three categories in a temporal sense. We also make clear people's desire to re-establish a harmonious relationship between people and the environment, to value natural resources, to protect the environment, and to give future generations a fair share of natural resources as well.
How did you perceive and feel about the environments in the past?
How do you perceive and feel about the current state of the environments (land, water, and air)?
What changes or improvements would you like to see in the future?
Using three questions, we classified people's emotions about viewing at different times in terms of colour. The past is the black colour of mourning, the present is the red colour of anger, and the future is the green colour of hope.
About water
Past: Residents nostalgically recall clear, vibrant rivers and lakes that once brought joy and contributed significantly to the quality of life, symbolizing harmony between people and nature.
Present: There is widespread concern and anxiety about water pollution caused by industrial wastewater, excessive agricultural fertilizers, and poorly managed domestic sewage, significantly degrading water ecosystems.
Future: People hope for stricter and more effective water management strategies, including advanced sewage treatment facilities, ecological restoration initiatives, and widespread public education efforts. These efforts aim to restore ecological balance and sustainably protect water resources.

The environment should be relaxing and empowering
Within my lifetime i feel like it has deteriorated

The air is getting worse, the colour of the river is getting muddy
Seeing a sunny day and clear river water will be refreshing.
After living in London for over six months, I feel the city has many great green spaces, but air pollution from traffic is still noticeable. The Thames is a beautiful river, but sometimes the water quality doesn't seem great. There are good sustainability

The water can be clearer and there is not so much pollution in the air

It is hoped that the oceans can be protected. carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced, and people's lifestyles can be made greener and healthier.

Disappearance of plastic

About Air
Past: Residents nostalgically recall London's once clean air and clear skies, which provided a sense of well-being and comfort.
Present: Many people express distress about worsening air quality due to increased emissions from industry and transportation. Residents feel physical health impacts and psychological stress due to deteriorating air conditions.
Future: Citizens aspire to extensive adoption of ecofriendly transportation, increased use of clean energy, and expansion of green spaces, all contributing to improved air quality and the return of a healthier, cleaner atmosphere.
Blue sky and white clouds, there is no such polluted air

The whole quality of the environment in the past was better than today, and although there was industrial pollution, the environment was more habitable than today.
Before coming to London, I thought it was very environmentally friendly. After living here, I see that while there are many green initiatives, challenges like pollution and waste management still exist. Some cities I've been to had better air quality or waste systems, while others were worse.

The soil moisture is too high, the water is very polluted and there are many bad smells in the air.

By what you see, what you hear, what you smell

I hope to see cleaner air, better water quality, and more eco-friendly transport options. Expanding green spaces and raising awareness about sustainability would also be great improvements.

I want a clean and tidy air where man and nature are at one
About land
Past: Residents fondly remember a time when the land was abundant, healthy, and clean, providing resources and enhancing their overall well-being.
Present: Currently, people express concern about increasing land pollution, especially plastic waste, unmanaged garbage disposal, and unsustainable land development practices, negatively impacting their living environment and health.
Future: There is a strong desire for improved waste management and recycling systems, stricter control of plastic usage, and promotion of circular economy practices to create healthier, more sustainable land use.

We used to destroy them much more aggressively and the lasting damage is sad to see.

I've thought of the enviornment as relaxing and a place to enjoy spending time in.

They are temperamental where they are not perfect but we are in a point where I think it will either get better or get much worse.
Im Worried about the direction it is taking, particularly the amount of plastic
More environmental friendly solutions such as more renewable energy

A better way off understanding rubbish and how it can be disposed. utilised or organised.
