in the clouds

A group of children are playing football on a fi eld

deep in the mountains of Sichuan Province.

This is the inspiring① story of the girls’ football

team of Wawu Primary School. The school is more than

2,600 meters above the sea level, so it is known as the

“school beyond the clouds”.

In 2019, the school’s headmaster, Qubi Shigu, set

up the girls’ football team. The girls work very hard on

training. “As their skills improve, they become more

confident,” says Qubi Shigu. Jiniu Wuzuo is the team

leader. She can head the ball 500 times in a row after

three years of practice. She keeps a photo of Lionel Messi

in her schoolbag and dreams of becoming a star player

like him.

The school has a motto②: Let the mountain school

become a place for dreams. “I’ll do my part to help the

children realize their dreams,” says Qubi Shigu.

Qubi Shigu began working as a teacher back in 2003.

He had to walk nearly 15 kilometers over the mountains

to reach Wawu Primary School. Although there used to

be a lack③ of water and electricity, he has stayed there

ever since. In 2017, he started a boys’ football team at the

school. Now, every grade has football teams for boys and girls.

Wawu Primary School has become a place for

children to have big dreams of becoming football stars. And

Qubi Shigu hopes that the sports spirit can accompany (陪

伴) them throughout their lives.

Confucius was born

in the Lu Kingdom. When

he was three years old, his

father died. His mother

taught him to read and write

when she worked at home.

When he was young,

Confucius loved reading

very much. (2)     The

Six Arts*

were another great

interest of Confucius. They

were rituals, music, archery,

charioteering, calligraphy

and mathematics. He was

especially interested in the

rituals of the Zhou Dynasty.

However, his mother was too

poor to pay for the education

of the Six Arts, so he taught

himself.

he invited all the men of

knowledge in the kingdom

to his house. Confucius was

still young, but he felt that it

was a good chance to learn,

so he went to Ji Wuzi’s house.

However, when Confucius

arrived, the guard did not let

him in. Instead, he shouted

Confucius was very sad.

He thought, “I am not famous

enough yet.” As a result, he

studied the Six Arts even

harder. He said to himself, “I

Her name is Hao Ruoqi, a member

of the China National Opera and

Dance Drama Theater.

Born in 1993, Hao has become

one of China’s most popular female (女性的)

dancers. Hao started learning dancing at the age

of 7. She entered college in 2011 and became a

professional dancer after leaving school.

In 2017, Hao played the leading role in the

dance show Hua Mulan. It was a great challenge

for her, even though she had much performance

experience. She cried every night when returning

to the hotel during rehearsals (彩排). “At that

time, I thought to myself that I would never

dance again after playing the role of Mulan,” she

said.

Luckily, Hao didn’t give up. She studied

everything about Mulan very carefully. She even

found teachers and learnt Chinese kung fu from

them. In order to perform the action scenes well,

Hao and her partners worked hard to practice the

fi ghting moves.

The show was a big success. But for Hao, it

was more than just playing the role of a woman

in the army. “The spirit of Mulan has lived in

everyone’s mind from ancient times to now.

We can feel the power (力量) of women from

Mulan. I’m lucky to be able to show it to more

people through dance,” Hao said.

Every year in late March, lots of people would

like to visit Tibet to enjoy the flowers of peach

trees. Mu went there this year. But he went there in

a special way.

32-year-old Mu had an idea of visiting Tibet by
