Principle
Principle of RTG7800 Radar Level Gauge: It is a Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar level gauge operating in the 76–81 GHz frequency band. It transmits modulated continuous radar signals and measures the distance by detecting the frequency difference between the transmitted signal and the echo reflected from the target, thereby obtaining accurate distance information between the radar level gauge and the medium surface. Its maximum measuring range can reach 30 meters.
Principle of RTG6000X Radar Level Gauge: It adopts a pulsed radar ranging system operating at 60 GHz, with a maximum measuring range of up to 16 meters. Its lens antenna emits narrow microwave pulses, which are reflected back by the surface of the measured medium and received by the antenna system again. Microwaves propagate at the speed of light, and the signal travel time from transmission to reception is proportional to the level in the vessel.

When a Stilling Well is Required:
• For internal floating roof tanks: a stilling well and reflector plate are required.
When the installation location is less than 1000 mm from the tank wall.
When there are obstructions inside the tank, or the liquid surface has significant foam or turbulence.
When the measured medium has a dielectric constant below 1.8, resulting in weak echo signals.
When there are other interfering structures inside the
Installation Guide
When mounting, the opening shall be located at 1/2R (where R is the tank radius), and the distance from the tank wall shall be greater than 1 m.
For dome-roof or conical-roof tanks: Do NOT install the instrument at the exact center of the top.
For flat-roof tanks: Installation at the exact center of the top is not recommended.
2 The microwave beam emitted by the antenna shall be kept away from the incoming material flow, and installation of the instrument directly above the feed inlet is prohibited.
3 should be at least 300mm to avoid medium contamination of the antenna.
When mounting, avoid tank internal fittings, such as: ladders, point level switches, heating coils, bracket, etc. If avoidance is not possible, medium level verification should be performed during installation. A reflector plate can be installed to redirect the reflected waves caused by interfering objects, preventing interference echoes.
|5 If the instrument is installed outdoors or in a humid, steamy environment, to prevent moisture (and avoid water entering the instrument), the cable sealing sleeve should be tightened. Additionally, the cable should be bent to be waterproof and fixed to prevent loosening and water ingress.
When a stirrer is installed inside the tank, the instrument shall be mounted as far away as possible from the stirrer and tank wall, generally in the area between the tip of the stirring blade and the tank wall.
Mounting on Reserved Location
Radar level gauges are typically installed on pre-fabricated flanges of the tank or vessel. To ensure the signal beam is perpendicular to the surface of the measured medium, the flange mating surface must be horizontal.
A short straight pipe, known as a riser, is usually present between the flange and the tank. The inner diameter of the riser must be at least 100 mm. If this requirement cannot be met, the tank roof must be modified according to the “Non-reserved location" installation guidelines.
Flange standard: EN 1092.1-2002
| Flange Selection Table | ||||
| Specifications | Outer diameter | Center hole | Number of holes | Aperture |
| DN150 | Φ285 | Φ240 | 8 | 22 |
| DN200 | Φ340 | Φ295 | 12 | 22 |
| DN250 | Φ405 | Φ355 | 12 | 26 |
Mounting on Non-Reserved Location
If no pre-fabricated opening is available, the tank roof must be retrofitted with a new riser pipe. The installation requirements are as follows:
① Riser pipe information
| Nominaldiameter | Nominalpressure | Connection standard | Flange type | Connectingsurface type | Purpose orname | Standpipeheight A |
| DN150 | 16 | EN 1092.1-2002 | WN | RF | Liquid levelgauge port | 150mm |
(The riser pipe height refers to the distance from the flange sealing surface to the intersection of the opening center line and the outer wall of the tank roof; there must be no shelter under the riser pipe opening.)
②The inner wall of the riser pipe should be clean and smooth, without defects such as stairs and bulges. It is fully welded after bedding-in and cutting at the point indicated by the arrow, and the flange butt joint surface is required to be horizontal. The type and size of the welded joints are in accordance with the regulations of EN 14015, all of which are penetration welded structures; the height of the fillet weld leg is the thickness of the thinner part, and the concave shape transitions smoothly.
Other Technical Requirements
1. The material of the pipe is S304 stainless steel, which complies with the requirements of ASTM A269-2004 "Standard Specifications for Seamless and Welded Austenitic Stainless Steel Pipe Products for General Purposes".
2. The surface of the stainless steel shall be pickled and passivated, and tested by the blue spot method. The product shall be qualified if there is no blue spot.
3. The manufacturing, inspection and acceptance shall comply with the requirements of EN
13445 "Non-combustion Pressure Vessels".
Installation Steps
Step 1
Drop the level gauge equipped with the adapter flange onto the riser flange smoothly, and align the bolt mounting hole.
Step 2
Rotate the level gauge clockwise, align the bolt mounting holes of the adapter flange and the riser flange in turn and observe the signal, and select the position with the strongest signal for fixing.
Step 3
Therefore, when the bolts are tightened, they must be pre-tightened first, and then tightened, diagonally pre-tightened and diagonally tightened to ensure the signal of the level gauge perpendicular to the surface of the measured medium after fixing. (Before tightening the bolts, a small amount of butter needs to be applied to prevent the bolts from rusting and facilitate maintenance)
Step 4
If it is installed in an explosion-proof area, it must comply with the installation regulations for national explosionproof hazardous areas.
Warning
The instrument contains electronic components that are susceptible to static electricity, so appropriate and effective electrostatic protection measures should be taken when disassembling and installing the internal components, and please follow the principles below.
The power supply of the instrument must be cut off.
When contacting, disassembling and installing internal components, operators should wear anti-static rings or take other safe and reliable grounding methods to ensure that the static electricity can be quickly and smoothly discharged.
