PPC属于脂肪族聚碳酸酯，是一种典型的生物降解塑料，生物降解塑料产业是PPC的最重要的舞台，PPC的具体应用领域源自其所合适的力学强度、一定的透明性和优良的阻氧性能。生物降解塑料是一类在自然界存在的细菌作用下能发生降解，最后产生二氧化碳和水的环保塑料，被誉为21世纪解决塑料“白色污染”难题最有可能的环保技术。以二氧化碳为原料合成PPC等高分子材料是极具吸引力的，一方面是利用了温室气体二氧化碳，另一方面二氧化碳的成本仅为200-700元吨（取决于不同来源二氧化碳的回收成本），而普通的合成高分子的单体成本在5000元/吨以上，因此PPC是有可能降低生物降解高分子材料制造成本的一个典型品种，一旦催化剂性能和聚合工艺取得进展，最有可能突破长期制约生物降解塑料产业的成本瓶颈。

秸秆是成熟农作物茎叶（穗）部分的总称。通常指农作物在收获籽实后的剩余部分，是粮食的主要副产品，约占作物生物量的 5 0 % ，由纤维素，半纤维素和木质素组成，富含氮、磷、钾、钙、镁和有机质等，是一种具有多用途的可再生的生物资源。乾安县是农业大县，玉米秸秆资源极其丰富，但综合利用很不充分，秸秆随意抛弃、焚烧现象严重，不仅造成一系列环境问题，还浪费了宝贵的生物资源。充分挖掘秸秆的价值，在开发利用秸秆饲料化、基料化、肥料化、原料化、燃料化的“五料化”的基础上，探索纤维、半纤维、木质素的分级提取，实现秸秆高值化利用，串起一条低碳环保、农民增收、企业增效的“绿色产业链”。不仅有利于循环经济的发展，能源消费结构的调整，经济增长方式的转变，也是实现社会经济可持续发展的有效途径。
