At the beginning, it was named Yangqu, and then renamed Nanpu, Yuquan, Anxiang, and Wanchuan. In the eighth year of Zhenguan’s reign of Tang Dynasty (AD 634), it was called Wanzhou, and in the sixth year of Hongwu’s reign of Ming Dynasty (AD 1373) it was renamed Wanxian. Its trade port was opened to foreign countries in 1902, and the customs was established in 1917. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, this place has been the seat of the Wanxian administrative office, with nine counties and one city under its jurisdiction. In 1992, the prefecture-level city, Wanxian, was established with eight counties and three districts under its jurisdiction. After Chongqing became a municipality, Wanzhou District was established.

07 CHONGQING WANZHOU AREA 地理位置 GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION 万州处于全国版图⼏何“中⼼点”，重庆东北部，三峡库区腹⼼，⽔路上距重庆主城327公⾥，下距宜昌321公 ⾥。是⻄⼊巴蜀，东出荆楚的必经之地，川东北、渝东北的重要中⼼。 Wanzhou is located at the geometrical “central point” of the national territory, northeast of Chongqing, heart of the Three Gorges Reservoir area, 327 kilometers away from Chongqing, and 321 kilometers away from Yichang on the waterway. 重 庆 万 州 12 港⼝⽅⾯：万州港是⻓江上游最⼤的常年深⽔良港、重庆三⼤核⼼港区之⼀。港⼝现有货物年吞吐能⼒达3300万 吨，集装箱年吞吐能⼒达70万标箱，通过铁⽔、公⽔联运，已形成辐射全国的物流⼤通道。 机场⽅⾯：万州机场实现旅客年吞吐量115万⼈次，已开通23条国内国际航线，机场改扩建有序推进，远期将打造 4E级⼲线机场。 Ports: Wanzhou Port is the largest deep-water port on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and one of the three vital ports in Chongqing. The current cargo reaches an annual throughput of 33 million tons, and the annual throughput of containers reaches 700,000 TEUs (Twenty-feet Equivalent Unit). By combining transportation of railway, waterway and highway, Wanzhou has formed a logistics channel that radiates across the country. Airport: Wanzhou Airport has achieved an annual throughput of 1.15 million passengers, opened 23 domestic and international routes, and the airport has been reconstructed and expanded in an orderly manner. In the future, a big 4E-class airport will be built.

13 CHONGQING WANZHOU AREA 内陆开放高地 HIGHLY-OPEN INLAND AREAS 万州综合保税区 WANZHOU COMPREHENSIVE BONDED ZONE 重 庆 第5个 综 合 保 税 区 ， 也 是 渝 东 北 地 区 唯 ⼀ 的 综 合 保 税 区 。 占 地 ⾯ 积1.85平 ⽅ 公 ⾥，其 中：⼀ 期 占 地0.85平 ⽅ 公 ⾥。总 体 规 划 建 设 办 公 及 贸 易 服 务 区 、 查 验 区 、 海 关 内 外 卡 ⼝ 区 、 保 税 加 ⼯ 区 和 检 验 处 理 区 等 六 ⼤ 功 能 区 ， 总 建 筑 ⾯ 积 约 108万平⽅⽶，重点发展国际中转、配送、采购、转⼝贸易和出⼝加⼯等业务。 Wanzhou Comprehensive Bonded Zone, the fifth bonded zone in Chongqing, is also the only comprehensive bonded zone in northeastern Chongqing.
