I. About the refrigeration industry
Refrigeration technology is a scientific and technological field widely used in sectors of national economic development. It has a history of over 100 years since the mid-19th century and has been applied in fields' such as air conditioning, food refrigeration, medical treatment, and'daily life.
Due to technological advancements, the refrigeration industry has adopted refrigerants such as ammonia, carbon dioxide, chloroform, chloroethane, sulfur dioxide, and isobutane. In recent years, due to environmental requirements, the refrigeration industry has successively introduced alternative refrigerants. The adoption of alternative refrigerants has further promoted the development of synthetic refrigeration oil, requiring the development of different refrigeration oils for different refrigerants. China has developed multiple types of refrigeration oils and will gradually align with the world.
Due to differences in degree of refrigeration or environmental regulations, compressor manufacturers use different refrigerants, resulting in individualized differences in refrigeration oil. Ordinary mineral oil is naturally formed and is not applies to molecular structure design, making.it difficult to meet personalized needs. However, being suitable for molecular design is precisely the advantage of synthetic oils, so synthetic oils are widely used in various refrigeration categories.

The main types of refrigeration oil currently used in China are:

There is an obvious trend of global air conditioner production capacity shifting to China. Currently, China's air conditioner output accounts for more than 70% ofthe global output, with the improvement of domestic consumption level, the domestic air conditioner market is expanding very rapidly. The data shows that the ratio of domestic and foreign sales of domestically produced air conditioners is 47:53, while exports are basically on par with domestic sales. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the cumulative production of room air conditioners and refrigerators in China in 2015 was 142,004,000 sets and 79,928,000 sets, respectively, providing potential for development for synthetic refrigeration oil. At the national level, environmental protection requirements will become increasingly strict, and the replacement of R22 in China has become an irreversible trend, which will bring a broad space for the development of synthetic refrigerated oil, but also bring new challenges to the refrigeration industry.
I. Refrigeration system and oil requirements
The refrigeration system generally consists of compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator system components. Industrial refrigeration air conditioner generally has an independent oil separator, and the system is relatively large, usually maintained by a dedicated person. Small refrigeration systems such as household air conditioners are relatively simple, but require high reliability and long service life without maintenance.
The main function of refrigeration oil in the refrigeration system is to cool the compressor, reduce friction losses, prevent wear, cool the compressor, dissipate the heat generated by compression and friction, and seal the piston (rotor), cylinder, and compressor shaft seal to prevent refrigerant leakage.
