Every Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) has three basic components;
Toroidal currenttransformer,Triprelay,Switchingmechanism.
Thefunctionofthsecomponentsistodetectandevalatethesidualcurrntandtointeruptthepowersupplyfteresidualcunt exceedsaspecifedvaueForectpeatioanCBallvonductorsofteprotecteduitatleastasayoductos necessary for proper appliance function-must pass through the summation current transformer.
AnRCCBworksontheprincipleofcomparingcurrentsinliveconductorspassingthroughthissummationtroidalcurrenttansfoer Undernormalconditions(nophase-to-groundfault),thevectorsumof instantaneouscurrentvaluesqualszero.Themagneticfluxes from the various conductors cancel each other out inside the transformer core.
Whenanearthfaultocurs,partof thecurrentflowsoutsidetheliveconductors,creatinganimbalance.Thisimbalanceinducesa magneticfluinsidettrasforroredtupundingenerateurettatctiatestripelayeelate the switching mechanism,causing the contacts of the RCCB to open and disconnect the circuit.

Thesummationcurent transformerisusuallydesignedasaring-shaped transforerPermallyiscommonlyusedasthemagnetic materialhiletployacedgnticaterialsithnostaltructuresefadpdnt RCCB is a trip relay with a permanent magnet (PMR).
Inidlestate,tltueldyttOceeisducdntiiole ofthemagnetisducedlowingtesingfcetooetelayrmatureDuetitssimplicityndroveneliabilitytitef polarized relay is widely used.
Theswitching mechanismoftheRCCBmustbebothsensitiveandstrongenoughtoensurereliableoperationof thecontacts.Eachloac currentpathmustbecapableofcarryingtheratedcurrentthroughouttheservicelifeofthedevice.Thedistacebetweenopencontact must provide safeinsulation,and contacts must be protected from surgecurrentsand presumed short-circuit currents.
For multi-poletypes,theneutralconductor(N)contactsmustclosebeforeandopenafterthephaseconductor(L)contacts.This preventsnwantedsurgevoltagesinthephases.AllRCBsmustbeequippedwithatestingdeviceconsistingoftestbutton(Tanda resistor(R)apropriatetoteperatingoltage.ThetestbuttonmustbeasilyacessbletotheuserWhenpressed,itsiulates residual current using the test resistor, forcing current to flow outside the summation transformer.
Sensitivityto VariousTypesofResidual Currents
According to their sensitivity, RCCBsare classified into Type AC,Type A,and Type B.
Over time,additional variants have been developed to meet practical requirements.

InsulationTest
Each circuit breakeris factory-tested for insulation in compliance with applicable standards. However, if re-testing is required before installation,the following procedure must be observed
■Test instrument: Use a 10o0 VDC megohmmeter.
■Testconditions: Withthe circuit breakerin the open position,perform insulationresistance measurements as follows: 1.Between inlet and outlet connection terminals:1-2,3-4,and 5-6 2.Between terminals1,3,and5(connected bywires)and thecircuitbreaker casing (casing covered with metal foil) 3.Between the undervoltage release of the main circuit and the circuit breaker casing
■Insulation resistance requirement: Not less than 20 MΩ.
Alternative testmethod:Ifa10ooVDCmegohmmeterisnotavailable,apowerfrequencywithstandvoltage testermaybeused. Apply 30oo VAC for1 minute across the same test points specified above.
