A Legend Start from 100 Years Ago!

Kaspar Winkler was driven by his entrepreneurial spirit when he laid the cornerstone of our company in 1910. He invented Sika®-1, a quick -setting waterproofing admixture for mortar, which was used to waterproof the Gotthard Tunnel, enabling the Swiss railway company to electrify this important connection between Northern and Southern Europe.

Today the new Gotthard Tunnel (NEAT: New European Alp Transit) again is an important project for Sika. Although Sika®-1 is still part of our product range, today much more advanced products are being used. High-tech admixtures for shotcrete and tailored waterproofing systems are needed to build this 57 km tunnel – the longest tunnel on earth – through the Swiss Alps. We can be proud of our history and look to the future with optimism, as our know-how, our service and our products are needed more than ever.

PROTECTING

BONDING

Bonding joins different materials permanently, elastically and securely. Vehicles, windows, and even concrete elements of several tons for bridges are bonded using new processes. DAMPING

In fixed and moving objects, damping reduces vibrations of all wavelengths, resulting in fewer reverberations and noise emissions in load-bearing structures and cavities. REINFORCING

Reinforcing bolsters the carrying capacity of statically or dynamically stressed load-bearing structures in a targeted manner, from lightweight window frames to crash-resistant automotive bodies to imposing concrete bridges. Solutions for reinforcing fortify existing and optimize new load-bearing structures.

SEALING

Sealing minimizes the flow of gases and liquids between cavities and interstices as well as the dissemination and transfer of heat or cold. Immense flat roofs, complicated tunnel constructions, easily damageable water reservoirs and sophisticated façades are durably impervious to wind and rain, resistant to temperature, age and vibration. Sika's R&D strategy includes centralized and decentralized components that complement each other perfectly. Yet, Joint Sealing play the major role in keeping a building air and water tight and thus prevent damages with unforeseeable consequential costs as well as energy saving.

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

The main work of Hong Kong-ZhuhaiMacao Bridge is 2 9 . 6 k m in total and consists of a 2 2 . 9 k m bridge, an island and a 6 . 7 \mathsf { k m } subsea tunnel. The Bridge has a service life of 120 years and can withstand a magnitude 8 earthquake, level 16 typhoon, and 300,000-ton impact. As the world’s longest bridge-tunnel, the Bridge has the longest total span, the longest steel structure, and the longest underwater immersed tunnel and has broken many world records. It has been rated by The Guardian as one of the “seven wonders of the modern world”.

Sika® ViscoCrete®-3310C polycarboxylic acid high-performance water reducer was applied to the construction of the

C30 béton brut wave wall of the artificial island, resolving such problems as laitance, blackening and bleeding, thereby guaranteeing the appearance quality of the concrete. This product was also used in the construction of the large-volume marine concrete of the C45 hidden section of the artificial island to support other concrete cooling and anticrack measures, thus preventing any cracking of the concrete. The product was also applied to C55 cast-in-situ box girder on the artificial island to produce high-thixotropy, low-rheology and highperformance marine concrete, effectively preventing cold joints forming during concrete pouring and guaranteeing project quality. Sika® ViscoCrete®-1220 polycarboxylic acid high- performance water reducer was used to produce C30 concrete for the revetment project of the artificial island. The concrete admixture solutions of Sika were applied to over 500,000m of the Bridge

The remarkable qualit y and per formance of Sika Refurbishment products have won global recognition and trust and supported the construction of the Bridge. The project used Sikadur { 1 } - 3 1 SBA bond to splice the prefabricated parts of concrete piers. The service life proves the extremely stable quality of the product.

CONCRETE WATERPROOFING ROOFING FLOORING SEALING & BONDING REFURBISHMENT INDUSTRY

Sika PVC Single-Ply Roofing was applied on the Passenger Inspection Areas A and B of Zhuhai Port Custom and Traffic Center, covering an area of 141,000 { \mathfrak { m } } ^ { 2 } of this project. Sika specifically customized pearl white color Sarnafil® S327-15L PVC waterproofing membrane for the project. While matching with the aluminum standing seam system above it also provided a safe and reliable waterproofing for the upper part aluminum alloy metal sheet and fulfilled the architect’s requirements for the building appearance and functional performance.

Sika provided a series of outdoor and indoor flooring solutions. Sika supplied professional epoxy terrazzo flooring, super wear-resistant polyurethane outdoor/indoor flooring and dryshake hardener flooring for locations including the passenger inspection hall, parking lot, breakwater, equipment room, and offices, covering a total area of over 1 4 0 , 0 0 0 \mathsf { m } ^ { 2 } .

Sika Industr y Depar tment of fered Scania-Higer shuttle bus systemic solutions. All the glass within the buses was joined using SikaTack® Ultrafast HG and sealed with Sikaflex®-211 WR. The sealing of the external bus coating, the internal sealing, the chassis armor and the sealing of bus skylights and air conditioning are used Sika’s professional products.

BACKGROUND STORY

Volkswagen was one of the first international automakers to venture into China in 1984. Today, the group has 14 representative companies in the country.

Zhengzhou Yutong Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Yutong Group”), one of China’s top 500 enterprises, is a large-scale industrial group mainly specialized in bus business and some other strategic businesses such as construction machinery, automotive parts and components, real estate, etc. Yutong Bus covers an area of 1.12 million \mathsf { m } ^ { 2 } , with a daily capacity over 210 buses. So far, it has grown up into the largest and the most technologically advanced manufacturing base of large and medium-sized buses around the world and become the largest bus builder worldwide in terms of sales volume.

Sika started the cooperation with Yutong Group in 1995. It has now become the Key Account of Sika Industry business. In the past 17 years, Sikaflex®-265, Sikaflex®-221 and Sikaprimer®-206 ( [ G + P ) were mainly used for the Sealing & Bonding part of Yutong Bus. A solid relationship of trust was established during the long term cooperation period.
