MMA WELDING EQUIPMENT
Manualmetalarc (MMA)welding,also knownasshieldedmetal arc welding (SMAW),fluxshieldedarcweldingor informallyasstick welding,isa manualarc welding process that usesaconsumable electrodecoatedin fluxto lay theweld.Anelectric current,in the formof either alternating current or direct current fromawelding powersupply,isusedto formanelectricarc betweentheelectrode and themetalstobe joined.As theweld islaid,the fluxcoatingof the electrode disintegrates, giving off vaporsthat serve asa shielding gas and providinga layerof slag,both ofwhich protect the weld area from atmosphericcontamination.
Because of the versatility of the process and the simplicity of its equipmentand operation,MMA welding isone of theworld's most popularwelding processes. Itdominates other welding processes in themaintenance and repairindustry,and though flux-coredarc welding is growing in popularity,SMAW continues to be used extensively in the construction of steel structures and in industrial fabrication.The process isused primarily to weld ironand steels, but stainless steel canalso be welded with thismethod.
MMA PROCESS
MMAwelding requires a power supply,a ground cable and a welding cable equipped with theelectrode holder.There is no shielding gas,as the welding electrode iscoatedwitha material that produces shielding gas and slag over the molten weld pool. Many TIG welding machines are also suitable for MMA welding
Today'ssmall inverter powersources furtherincrease mobilityand reach ability. The power supply can, for example, be connected to a generatorwith longinputcables,takingtheweldingmachinenext tothe work piece.The smallest power sources currently weighonly 5 kg (10 lbs]. MMA welding is rather popular in hobbyist use as the onlyrequired parts are the power source and the welding electrodes. No shielding gas isrequired,and the devicesusually operate with the current obtained froma regular residential power outlet.

TIG WELDING
Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAw),also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG] welding, is an arc welding process that uses a nonconsumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld.The weld area is protected fromatmospheric contamination bya shielding gas [usuallyan inert gassuch as argonl, and a filler metal is normally used, though some welds,known asautogenouswelds,do notrequire it.A constantcurrent welding power supply producesenergy which isconducted across the arc througha columnofhighlyionized gasand metal vapors knownasa plasma.
GTAW is most commonly used to weld thin sections of stainless steel andnon-ferrousmetals such asaluminum,magnesium,and copper alloys. The process grants the operator greater control over the weld thancompeting processes suchas shielded metal arc welding and gasmetal arcwelding,allowing for stronger,higher qualitywelds. However,GTAw iscomparatively more complex and dificultto master,andfurthermore,itissignificantlyslowerthanmostother welding techniques.

MIG WELDING EQUIPMENT
MIG/MAG generates an electricarc between fed wire and workpiece viathewelder.Thearc meltsbasemetaland fillerwiretoform welds.The feedercontinuouslydeliverswire throughthe torch,which alsoreleases shielding gas.MlG uses inert non-reactive shieldinggas, while MAG uses reactive gas mixtures (usually CO2 or oxygen). MAG is farmore prevalent,and people often mistakenlycall MAG MlG.This processiswidelyadopted acrossallwelding sectors:heavy industries (shipbuilding,steel structures, pipelines, pressure vessels, maintenancel, sheetmetalandautomotive workshops, plusamateur home users.
MIG/MAG welding systems consist ofa power source,wire feeder, ground cable, torch, optional liquid cooler and shielding gas supply [cylinder or pipelinel.
Thewire feeder deliverswire fromspool to torch, turns the power supplyon/offregulates output voltage via a control cable,and controls shielding gas flow.
Advancedmodularweldersletusers pickseparate power,feeder and coolingunits.The feeder can be detached for easyon-site transfer; replaceable control panels and optional extra functions are alsoavailable.
Torches heat during operation: gas-cooled types use shielding gas forcooling,while water-cooled ones need an independent liquid circulation unit.
The bulky, heavy wire spool limits the overall machine layout.
