Our Head office goes back to 1934, when the famous Bata family built Bata
Village and production facilities in Best, the Netherlands. Bata Industrials was
founded in the 1970s in response to a specific market demand: footwear for
professionals. Today, Bata Industrials is one of the world's largest producers
of safety footwear. A global player with offices in Europe, Chile, Mexico, South
Africa, Kenya, India, China, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
Our head office is still in Best and the collections for the European market are
increasingly produced in Best. This not only offers qualitative and logistical
advantages, but also makes our ecological footprint smaller. Since February
2024, we have been producing our soles in Best with a percentage of biobased PU or recycled rubber. Our ambition is to source 50% of our European
production locally by 2025. When we say Produced in the Netherlands, you
know the safety shoes are produced with the highest attention to quality,
safety and sustainability.

What does \"Produced in the Netherlands\" mean for our
safety footwear? It means we maintain tight control over the
key processes in our operations, including design, packaging,
testing, and logistics. Our Dutch team ensures that every step
we manage aligns with the highest standards of quality,
precision, and innovation.
At the core of our production is the Desma Direct Soling
Machine. While we’ve had this machine for some time, we
recently upgraded it to a more advanced version. This
updated Desma machine significantly improves the precision
and sustainability of our footwear. With these
enhancements, we can now produce soles with greater
accuracy, using bio-based PU that contains 20% renewable
materials sourced from corn, sugar cane, and castor beans.
The result is more sustainable footwear that also performs
better, with 38% higher rebound for improved shock
absorption and energy return.
The upgrades to our Desma machines in the Netherlands
demonstrate our commitment to continuous innovation.
As Christiaan Versteegh, our Innovation Specialist, explains,
“Thanks to the enhanced capabilities of the new Desma
machine, we can continue to test, innovate, and act quickly.
We developed the new material mix in-house, and we’re
already working toward using 40-60% bio-based material
in our soles.”
Every shoe is rigorously tested in our on-site lab to ensure it
meets the highest safety standards. This dedication extends
to our bread and butter collections: Enduro, FAYVR, Traxx,
Forward, Nova, and Mammoet collaborations. All of these are
produced using our proprietary technologies like Walkline
3.0 and the Tunnel System, designed to support the natural
movement of the foot.
Our local production chain gives us a unique advantage,
allowing us to maintain close control over every detail. From
efficient logistics to sustainable practices, we uphold the

WALKLINE 3.0
The Walkline® has been a key technology in our collections for years. It is part of our
Bata DNA, as we say. Over the years the technology has been adapted through new
insights. This is a continuous process. In the new Bata Enduro collection we use the
Walkline 3.0 for the first time. It is primarily the three interconnected and improved
Easy Rolling System®, Tunnel System®, and Heel Lock Support® technologies that take
Walkline® 3.0 technology to the next level.
Easy Rolling System®
Easy rolling means nothing more
than having a smooth heel-to-toe
transition. In combination with the
Tunnel System® that returns energy,
the Easy Rolling System® reduces
fatigue. By pre-forming the back
and the front of the outsole, the
natural gait progression of the foot
is supported in an optimal way. The
effect of this is energy-saving and
comfort-increasing.
To optimize the heel-to-toe transition,
we have modified the sole in two
places:
1. The rounder heel ensures the
correct start of the walking stride
of the foot. In addition, a rounder
heel ensures that the foot lands
on a larger surface area. This
increases the resistance with the
surface, thus more slip resistance
is obtained.
2. The raised front of the sole (i.e.,
the larger toe spring) ensures
that the shoe is further along in
its running cycle before the shoe
must be flexed to complete the
walk line. Not having to bend
the shoe saves you energy and
reduces pressure from the upper
on the forefoot which is just
behind the toe cap.
Walkline®
Many safety shoes have a curved
(“banana-shaped”) design that
forces the foot into an unnatural
position and can cause foot, ankle,
knee, or hip problems. From years
of experience, we know that the
natural movement of the foot is
not a straight line. That is why
Bata Industrials, together with
biomechanical researcher Terje
Haugaa, developed the Walkline®:
a system that follows and supports
the natural movement of the foot to
prevent and reduce foot problems.
A walking cycle starts on the
outside of the heel, rolls along the
outside and ends via the ball of the
foot to the big toe. By efficiently
controlling the position of the
muscles, we reduce and prevent
foot-related disorders and ultimately
absenteeism.
The outsole is designed according to
the anatomical walking pattern: from
the outside of the heel to the big toe.
This reduces resistance, saves energy,
and increases stability. Walkline®
supports every step in a natural and
comfortable way.
Tunnel System®
The Tunnel System® increases ground
contact for more grip and deforms the
heel with every step. When the foot
comes off the ground, the heel springs
back and returns energy for a slight
boost. The dynamic sole automatically
places the foot in the correct position,
supporting the arch and helping
prevent tendonitis.
Heel Lock Support
®
The Heel Lock Support
® holds the
heel firmly in place, supporting
the Walkline
®. The improved heel
material is molded to Bata's last with
multiple widths, ensuring that the
heel is perfectly enclosed without
pinching the midfoot. The V-shape
above the heel follows the anatomy,
provides stability, and prevents
discomfort. The special lace tension
across the instep provides extra heel
fixation. To optimize the Heel Lock
Support
®, we designed the correct
angle of lace tension across the
instep in the upper.

The Bata Enduro has the best-in-class fitting, lifetime quality and is made in Holland. The
Bata Enduro ACT is made with an aluminum safety toecap and a PU mid- and outsole. The PU
outsole is SR-certified and equipped with a Ladder Grip (LG) following the new safety standard.
And with the use of 20% bio-based polyurethane in the mid- and outsole, 65% recycled
polyester Bata Cool Comfort ® +lining in the upper, 100% recycled polyester in the insole and
laces from 100% rPet, we take with this collection ANOTHER STEP ahead - in sustainability.

BATA ENDURO PWR COLLECTION
New machine, better safety shoes, more sustainable thanks to bio-based PU and
recycling, produced in the Netherlands.
In the summer of 2024, our high-tech machinery was expanded with the Desma
Direct Soling Machine, currently the most advanced shoe machine available. This
enables Bata Industrials to produce the best and most sustainable safety shoes in the
Netherlands.
Thanks to the recycling of cutting waste and the use of 20% bio-based PU, made
from renewable materials such as corn, sugar cane, and castor beans, the soles are
more environmentally friendly and perform better.

38% rebound: an innovative step towards more comfort
Our in-house developed bio-based PU material offers
38% rebound, a 20% improvement over conventional
PU. This rebound provides greater comfort, better shock
absorption, and optimal energy return, reducing fatigue
while keeping your stride stable and controlled.
By using foam made from renewable, organic materials,
we are reducing the ecological footprint of our products
and underlining our commitment to sustainable change
in shoe production.
The material meets the highest safety standards (DIN EN
16640) and offers excellent durability, flexibility, and
resistance to oil and gasoline. The long-term goal is to
use 40–60% bio-based material in all soles.

Over twenty years ago, we developed the Traxx collection to meet all legal, health, and safety standards.
We added two new safety shoes equipped with a waterproof HDry® sealing and a quick dial BOA® Fit

Recycled inlay soles: all Traxx models are fitted with the Premium Fit inlay
sole, made of 82% GRS recycled polyurethane foam. This special POLIYOU®
foam has a significantly lower carbon footprint than regular foam. Recycled
content is pre-consumer and GRS 4.0 certified. Production of 1 KG POLIYOU®
has an output of 1.46 CO2/KG, which is 1/10 of the output of regular HD
(High Density) foam.

RADIANCE COLLECTION
The Vibram® outsole is best known for its performance in terms of SRC
slip resistance. Vibram® is the world’s leading specialist in outsoles for a
variety of footwear. The Italian company is named after its founder, Vitale
Bramani. Bramani invented the first rubber lug shoe soles. A lug sole is
a thick rubber sole with deep indentations, which improves stability and
traction. These soles were first used on mountaineering boots, replacing
leather soles fitted with hobnails.

special lightweight EVA midsole, using our own developed 3B-Motion technology:
Bata’s Boosting Base. The special molecular EVA structure is arranged in such a way
that very little energy is lost upon ground impact. The use of specially formulated
EVA material with high cushioning and elastic properties increases the level of
comfort even further. What’s more, you will get a real power BOOST when you are
walking and, as a result, feel more energized.

In terms of design, they are similar, but with an important advantage: they are partly made of an extremely

WHAWOWA means What Women Want. When it comes
to safety shoes, we at Bata Industrials know exactly

WHAWOWA collection especially for women.

Judith Sanders says, ”Specifically for the WHAWOWA
collection, we developed a last exclusively for the
women's foot. The result is a women's shoe that is
narrower at the heel and has more room at the forefoot
and toes. The advantage of optimally fitting safety
shoes is that they are more comfortable, more stable
and you get significantly fewer injuries. They are softer,
have a smoother entry and provide more cushioning.“
The models combine safety with feminine details and
modern techniques such as Bata's proprietary Easy
Rolling System and Super Critical Foaming technology
in the EVA midsole, adding foam inserts in the ball and
heel of the foot.
Last year the WHAWOWA collection was expanded with
two new models: Rosa and Jane. Both are black with
salmon pink details for a feminine touch.
Employers are encouraged to give women the proper
attention by providing appropriate work shoes, which
promotes both safety and the work atmosphere.
Feedback from women on the collection is very
positive. Not only the slimmer fit, but also the springy,

The SUMM+ collection features a

much lighter than traditional steel yet
just as safe. The aluminum application is
robust, making walking around easier

SLIPRESISTANCE
Slips, trips and falls are the number one cause of
accidents in the workplace. This makes slip resistance
one of the most important elements of a safety shoe.
Every SUMM+ model is equipped with a SRC certified
TPU-outsole with deeper tread grooves for better grip.
SRC certification means the sole’s slip resistance has
been tested on both ceramic tiles covered in Sodium
Lauryl Sulphate (soap) and on a steel surface with
glycerol (SRA + SRB = SRC). The TPU-outsole passed both
tests with flying colors.
COMFORT
The Premium Fit inlay sole features a mesh
top layer. The POLIYOU® foam technology

Development and collaboration
Mammoet, a world leader in heavy lifting and

Design and details
Mammoet's unique corporate identity is clearly

To prevent feet becoming tired we use the Easy
Rolling System® in the outsole, a subtle adaptation
with major benefits. By pre-forming the front of
the foot the natural motion of the foot is optimally
supported. This saves energy and increases comfort.

Flexline®
Eagle incorporates smart Flexlines that follow the
foot’s natural flex zones, offering maximum support,
grip and flexibility.
Tunnel System®
The Eagle PU outsoles feature the ingenious Tunnel
System®, which we developed with the renowned
prof. dr. W. Baumann, professor in biomechanics.
This recognizable notch in the heel (the tunnel)
deforms when it comes down, to spread the pressure
over a larger surface area. This built-in shock
absorber thus spares the joints and keeps the wearer
upright. By spreading the load, it also gives the heel
extra stability.
This prevents tiredness, loss of concentration and
hence a great many accidents. Together with the
pre-shaped memory foam inlay sole, the EAGLE
offers maximum comfort and shock absorption
while, at the same time, keeping your feet cool, dry

conduct cold, unlike composite or plastic. A safety shoe with a composite
toe cap and midsole insulates better, keeping warmth inside.
In a hospital on the MRI department, a metal-free safety shoe can also
be important. Here magnetic fields are created that can lead to serious
situations when metal objects are in the vicinity, resulting in injuries and

We opt for transparency: material passports for sustainable safety.
At a time when consumers and governments expect greater transparency,
Bata Industrials is taking an important step towards complete transparency
with the introduction of digital product passports (DPPs): or as wel call
it the 'material passport'. This innovation is in line with new European
regulations that require companies to provide detailed information about
the sustainability of their products.
What are digital product passports?
Bata Industrials' digital product passports provide a
complete overview of the materials used in our safety shoes
in addition to their origin and environmental impact. Our
specialist Christiaan Versteegh from the R&D department
developed these passports, tailored specifically to the needs
of safety footwear users. Although no official EU template
is available yet, we have taken the initiative to achieve this
transparency ourselves.
Help for users
The passports are user-friendly, with clear graphs and
symbols. This allows everyone to see at a glance what
percentage of the shoe is made from sustainable materials.
The passports are currently available for four major
collections: Enduro, FAYVR, Traxx, and WhaWoWa. In the
coming months, we will expand this to other collections
such as Mammoet, Helix, Forward, and DB.02.
Transparency first
We believe in complete transparency. That is why we not
only mention our successes, but also the challenges we
face. For example, some products still contain a limited
percentage of recycled materials. We currently use 65%
recycled material in the FAYVR lining, because tests have
shown that 100% recycled material reduces quality.
Safety always comes first in our choices.
Future plans
Our ambition is clear: we will continue to work on further
sustainability. For example, we are investigating how we
can increase the percentage of organic materials in our soles
from 20% to 50%. By 2027, when digital passports become
mandatory, we aim to have a digital passport available for
every product in our range.

We are working with various partners to improve their
content and accessibility. In the future, we also want to
place QR codes on the packaging so that users can easily
consult the information. With our material passports, we

future, and we are proud to be leading the way in this area.

If a shoe carries a CE-label, this indicates the following: the product meets the requirements of European Regulation 2016/425
regarding personal protective equipment. The CE-standard EN ISO 20345:2011 has recently been renewed. The new CE-standard
EN ISO 20345:2022 consists of two parts. The basis label means that a product meets a number of basic requirements. If the
product also meets certain additional requirements, this is indicated by a symbol on the shoe.
The old standard: 2011 remains in force for safety shoes that are already on the market and for which the certification is still
valid. A safety shoe certificate is valid for 5 years. Safety shoes introduced after November 2024 will be tested according to the
new standards. This means that in the coming years there will be a transition period in which safety shoes comply with either the

Bata Industrials is committed to adopting progressively more
sustainable material choices in its products. The decision to
incorporate recycled polyester for shoelaces has already been
implemented. So now the step is there to use recycled Pro-Cool®
EcoMade polyester (rPET) and Polyfresh® GRS polyester in a big
amount of Bata Industrials socks. Both of these materials hold GRS
and Oekotex® certifications. Have a look at our Eco Cool, Thermo
and All Seasons socks! There are already ten models available
knitted with Eco materials.
We use the term “Eco” in sock model names that contain the yarn
Pro-Cool® EcoMade. This yarn is spun from recycled resources that

The Merino wool comes from Merino sheep with very fine wool that does not itch. As a result, the

These socks should be washed with care at 30°C.

THE TICK, A SMALL BUT DANGEROUS CREATURE
Ticks live in tall grass, forests, dunes, and gardens. A bite is
often painless, but an infected tick can transmit diseases such
as Lyme disease or other viral infections. Symptoms range
from fever and muscle pain to, in severe cases, meningitis.

Socks are often impregnated or sprayed with an insect
repellent. But Cell Solution
® Protection fibers contain
permethrin, a substance that paralyzes the nervous system
of insects. Permethrin is released evenly from the core to the
surface of the sock. This patented technology offers longlasting protection for up to 100 washes and is Oeko-Tex

II certified, so it is safe to wear directly on the skin.
FRESH AND COMFORTABLE
Silver ion yarn is also incorporated into the foot of the Anti
Bug socks. This makes the socks antibacterial and skinimproving for sensitive feet. These natural properties of silver
prevent unpleasant odors and the development of athlete's
foot. This special silver yarn is knitted directly into the sock,
