Culture
Australian people are friendly and welcoming. We are
a country known for our cultural diversity, with 30 per
cent of our population born overseas and more than

Charles Sturt University is based in the state of New
South Wales (NSW) which borders the states of
Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.
We have campuses in some of the fastest-growing

At Charles Sturt, we’re geographically gifted. We have six campuses
across regional Australia in Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo,
Orange, Port Macquarie and Wagga Wagga, as well as our new metro
location in Sydney.

On-campus farm
With Charles Sturt, you’ll have access to 1600
hectares of prime mixed farming land right at your
doorstep. It is also home to our Global Digital
Farm, an integrated digital learning, innovation and

Veterinary pre-clinical centre
The pre-clinical centre is a hub for teaching

Minimum academic requirements
For international students studying an Australian Year 12
qualification, your selection rank is your ATAR plus any
adjustment factors you may be eligible for.
If you’re an international student who has not completed an
Australian Year 12, we recognise a number of international
qualifications for direct entry.
Entry requirements for Charles Sturt University courses
vary from country to country. Some courses have specific

Applicants with a combination of domestic and international
qualifications will be assessed on the basis of their highest

Higher Degrees by Research
For admission to postgraduate research programs, you will be
required to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree equivalent to
an Australian bachelor’s degree or qualifications deemed to
be equivalent. Your academic performance at the bachelor’s
level will be assessed as part of the admissions process.

To be eligible for admission to a Charles

Competitive entry courses have early application deadlines.
These include undergraduate degrees in dental science,
physiotherapy and veterinary science. They may involve

Applying for credit
The university does not expect students to repeat study
completed to an acceptable standard at a recognised
university or college, or to study subjects in which they are
already competent because of work or other experience. You
should indicate on your Application for Admission if you are
applying for credit.
To have your application assessed for credit, you will need to
provide a certified copy in English of your academic transcript,
a description of the grading system and a description of all the
subjects completed, taken from the institution’s official handbook.
The university will advise you of your credit once the assessment
has been finalised.

2. Offer
If you meet the entry requirements, you will receive a formal Offer
of Admission (provisional, conditional or unconditional) by email.
This will provide information on the course of offer, starting date
and payment of fees. Make sure you have read and understood

All students may be required to have an interview assessment to

How to apply
(Higher Degrees by Research)
1. Choose your course
Charles Sturt University offers a range of Higher Degrees
by Research you can tailor to suit your needs and
interests, including the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) across
our three faculties: Arts and Education; Business, Justice
and Behavioural Sciences; and Science and Health.
Contact the Sub-Dean of Graduate Studies directly if
you know the faculty of your interest. This will give you
an opportunity to discuss your research topic and gain
advice to improve your chances of being accepted for
candidacy.

2. Applying
You can apply online at
apply.csu.edu.au
When you apply for a Higher Degree by Research, it is
advised that you detail your proposed research project as
this will be required by the faculty once your application is
received. You can apply at any time.
3. Your application is assessed
Your faculty’s Associate or Sub-Dean of Graduate
Studies will consider your eligibility and the availability
of a supervisory team for your project. If your project is
deemed eligible and there is adequate supervision, the
principal supervisor will complete a faculty admission
recommendation form and submit it to the Research
Office for university approval. If successful you will then
be made an Offer of Admission.
