We started Werollit with a simple idea — to make it easier to move, travel, and live freely. In a world where space is often limited, we wanted to make more room for the things that matter: freedom, adventure, and connection.

Werollit was born out of a wish to simplify life — not by owning less, but by designing smarter solutions.

How it started

Werollit's journey began on the road — somewhere between long drives, packed weekends, and a simple desire to make life easier.

It all started with a longing to see the world and to discover places we had never experienced. We believed that no matter where or how you live, everyone should have the right to their own adventure.

But not everyone has the opportunity to bring everything along. And roof boxes? They've been the same for decades — big, bulky, and impossible to store. A symbol of freedom, but also a symbol of inconvenience.

The idea behind Werollit was born the moment we looked at the storage problem instead of the roof problem. What if a roof box didn't have to take up half your garage or hallway when it wasn't in use? What if it could roll up? What if it could adapt to you — instead of the other way around? That thought became a sketch. The sketch became a prototype. And the prototype became a movement — a new way to travel, live, and think about space.

Werollit was never just about design. It was about freedom. Freedom to live small, travel big, and make room for what truly matters.

Every Werollit roof box begins its journey in the hands of skilled craftsmen and engineers.

From early sketches in Sweden to final assembly in our state-of-the-art facilities, every detail is carefully designed, tested, and refined. This gives us full control over every step of the production process, from design and material sourcing to assembly and quality assurance.

All Werollit products are manufactured in partnership with HD4U in Hangzhou, China – in a fully Swedish -owned facility that operates under Scandinavian quality standards.

Our commitment to sustainability and human rights is deeply rooted in Swedish values. HD4U operates under strict environmental and ethical standards, ensuring fair working conditions, responsible production methods, and minimized environmental impact. In independent tests conducted by the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), Werollit outperformed every leading competitor. Our roof boxes successfully passed the industry's toughest challenges: the City Crash Test at 18 km/h and 13 g, a High-Speed Test at 30 km/h, and even the UNECE R129 Crash Test at 49 km/h – the same standard used for child car seats. Based on these test results, it is fair to say that Werollit's roof box is the safest roof box in the world. Withstanding forces up to 26.8 g without external damage or detached parts, Werollit has proven to surpass all existing industry standards and set a new global benchmark for safety. Quite simply, Werollit is the world's safest roof box.

Werollit is built to endure both in use and over time. Crafted from waterproof and UV-resistant materials, it keeps its shape even when empty and stands strong in all conditions. At the heart of its patented design lies a stainless steel base plate - providing superior stability and safety, especially during sudden breaking. No plastic shells. No compromises. Just trusted performance at any speed.

The roof box undergoes rigorous testing in real conditions: snow, ice, strong winds, and sudden braking at 80-85 km/h – even with a 75 kg load. The result? No deformation, no instability, no surprises. Engineered for the road, refined for every journey.

The aerodynamic structure reduces drag by 25.6%, lowering fuel consumption and contributing to better environmental performance. That means smoother, quieter driving and a smaller environmental footprint – all without compromising on performance. But our sustainability commitment goes even further. Thanks to its innovative rollable design, Werollit allows for highly efficient transport and storage, reducing volume dramatically both during production shipments and customer deliveries.

Every unit takes up a fraction of the space compared to traditional roof boxes, which means fewer containers, fewer trucks, and a significantly smaller carbon footprint. The box's patented construction sets it apart from anything else on the market. Instead of relying on plastic, Werollit features a stainless-steel base plate and aluminum stabilizers, ensuring exceptional durability while minimizing waste and extending the product's lifespan.

In the mind of the maker

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how the idea for the roof box first came to life?

Absolutely. My name is Mikael, and I've always been driven by two things: adventure and frustration when something is unnecessarily complicated. The idea for Werollit was born out of exactly that — frustration. I had a traditional roof box that took up half my garage, was heavy, bulky, and a nightmare to store. One day I just thought: There has to be a smarter way. And that was the starting point. The rest is history.

Can you describe what your very first prototype sketch looked like, and how it evolved into the final design?

The very first sketch looked like something that should've stayed in a notebook — basically a mix between a roller blind and a travel bag. But the core idea was there: a roof box that didn't need to stay stiff and bulky all the time. After countless prototypes, better materials, a reinforced stainless-steel base, and hundreds of refinements, it became what Werollit is today — safe, sleek, and incredibly smart.

If no engineer could tell you “no”, what feature would you love to add?

l'd integrate a solar-powered energy system into the lid. Something that collects energy while you drive and lets you charge your phone, run a tent lamp, or power small gear during your adventure. And honestly... we're getting closer to making that a reality.

Do you have a favorite memory from traveling with the roof box?

With four kids and a huge passion for skiing and adventure, Werollit has become a must for us. The moment the first snow hits the ground, we pack up and go. And thanks to how easy Werollit is to use, we get on the road without stress — even as a big city family with limited space and lots of gear to bring. That feeling is priceless.

What do you think roof boxes will look like five years from now?

In five years, the plastic box will be history. Honestly — who wants a heavy plastic coffin on their roof that you can't store anywhere at home?

The future belongs to smart, flexible, space-saving, and safe solutions. And when it comes to safety and environmental impact, Werollit is already the obvious choice.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone wanting to build their own product, what would it be?

Build something you need. If you solve your own problem with passion, chances are many others feel the same. And remember: everything takes longer and costs more than you expect — but the reward is worth every minute.

If you could travel anywhere in the world with your roof box, where would you go?

Costa Rica. Surfboard on top, kids in the back, and Werollit's roof box packed with adventure gear.

Honestly, that's the kind of trip I had in mind when I first invented it.

Mounted on your car, Werollit's roof box offers a full 520 liters of storage capacity, enough for skis, camping gear, or the whole family's luggage. But the real magic happens when you're back home:

with a few simple steps, the box rolls up into a compact bundle that takes up only about 35 cm of space. Forget about bulky plastic boxes cluttering your garage — Werollit fits neatly in a closet or corner.

PACK WITH EASE,

Whether you're heading to the mountains, the coast, or a city weekend, Werollit's roof box is made to keep up. With side and full-top access, you can pack from any angle without awkward stretching or scratching your car. The foldable sides even protect your vehicle's surface while loading and unloading — small details that make a big difference when you're on the go.

And when the adventure's over? The lightweight 16.5 kg design makes it easy to remove, roll up, and carry — as simple as handling a travel bag. The roof box is also easy to pick up from a parcel service and convenient to carry home, with a total weight of just 19.5 kg and compact packaging (35 × 35 × 85 cm). It's perfect for urban living, where space is limited but the desire to explore is endless.

When not in use, the roof box folds down to just 5 cm on the roof, making it easy to leave mounted even in a garage.
