1. SCOPE
1.1This standard establishes requirements for exit devicesand trim,automatic and self-latching flush bolts,removable mulions,coordinators,and carry-open bars.Performance criteria include cycle, operational,strength,material evaluation,and finish tests.Functions and types are described and numbered.
1.2Tests described in this standard are performed under laboratory conditions.Inactual usage,results varybecause of installation,maintenance and environmental conditions.
2. GENERAL
2.1All products certified to this standard shall be listed or labeled bya Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) and be subject to periodic examination service.
2.2Exit devices are available in Grades 1,2,and 3 with grade 1 being the highest grade.Allare suitable forall classesof buildings and are basedon the performance tests listed.A Grade1 exit device shall be furnished withall Grade1 trim andcylinders,when supplied,inorder to retainan overall Grade1rating. A Grade2exit device shallbe furnished with grade2,or higher,trim and cylinder inorder to retain an overall Grade 2 rating;and similarly for Grade 3 rating.
2.3Door coordinators Type 21A are available in Grade 1 and 2.Door coordinators Type 21B are available in Grade2.Both Grades are suitable forallclasses of buildings and are based on performance tests listed.
2.4Carry-open bars are available in Grades 1 and 2.Both are suitable for all classes of buildings and are based on the performance test listed.When coordinators are installed with carry-open bars,the Grade of the combination is the lower Grade of either component.
2.5All exit devices shall meet the requirements and performance tests found in Underwriters Laboratories,Inc.StandardUL3o5-Panic Hardware-2004,
2.6The cycling requirements listed shall not be considered as being in addition to those required by UL305 but comprise the total required.
2.7Values Required values in this Standard are given in US units.The SI (metric) equivalents are approximate.All values which do not carry specific tolerances or are not marked maximum or minimum shall have the following tolerances:Linear dimensions shall be ± 1 / 1 6 in 1 . 6 {mm } ).Pounds or pound force shall be ± 5 % :Angular measurements shall be ± 4 degrees.Voltage measurements shall be ± 5 percent. Temperature measurements shall be ± 4 degreesF( ± 2 degrees C).

12. COORDINATORANDCARRY-OPENBARTESTS
12.1 Tests shallbe performed using pairs of doors no smaler than described in 7.1.Frames and hardware shallbe in accordance with 7.2,7.4,and 7.5.For tests that include acarry-open bar,anastragal with a minimum of 3/4 in.( ( 1 9 \ {mm } ) )overlap shall be applied to the pull side of the active leaf.Install the coordinator and carry-open bar in accordance with the manufacturer's published instalation instructions.
12.2 Cycle Test When cycle testing a coordinator,doors shallbe pushed open separately to not less than a 60 degrees open position,then released sequentially so that the active leaf is first to engage the coordinator.When cycle testinga coordinator and carry-open barcombination,the inactive leaf shall be pushed at a speed not to exceed 5 degrees per second and to not less thanan open position2O degrees beyond the point where the carry-open bar breaks contact with the active leaf,then released.For subsequent cycles,the inactive leaf shall be opened at any speed to not less than an open position 20 degrees beyond the point where the carry-open bar breaks contact with the active leaf,then released.
12.3In alltests,during the closing sequence,the active leaf shallbe held open by the coordinator hold open device fora minimum ofone(1) second and shall alow the inactive leaf to swing past the active leaf and activate the coordinator release,and the active door shallclose against the stop.An opening and closing operation shall constitute one (1) cycle.The coordinator or carry-open bar or both shall complete the specified cycles without failure.Failure of the coordinator to perform any closing sequence constitutes failure ofthe entire coordinator test.Failure of the carry-open bar to perform any one opening sequence or failure to bypass any one coordinated active leaf constitutes failure of the carry-open bar test.Failure of the coordinator to prevent marring of the door face by wearing through any strike during the cycle test constitutes failure of the entire coordinator and remaining cycles shall be discontinued.

12.4 Override Function Test Type 21A coordinators equipped with override mechanisms shall complete the cycles required in 7.9.2.1.With the device at the factory preset position,or iffield setat the midpoint seting,restrain the inactive leaf inan open position.Open the active leaf until the hold open device on the coordinator is fuly projected.At the furthest point from the hinges or pivots,push on the active leaf until theoverride mechanismreleases.With the inactive leaf stillrestrained in the open position,manually open the active leaf a minimum of 6O degrees.Release the active leaf.The active leaf shall remain held in the openposition by thecoordinator.Perform this test prior to thecycle test,after every25,Ooo cycles,and at the completion of the cycle test.Failure of the overrde mechanism to release or failure ofthe active leaf to be held open by the coordinator constitutes failure ofthe function test.Failure of any one of the function tests constitutes failure of the entire coordinator test and any remaining cycles shallbe discontinued.

1. SCOPE

2. DEFINITIONS
2.1 Bearings
2.1.1Anti-Friction Bearing Bearing material between the Various moving parts of a hinge.
2.1.2Plain Bearing (non anti-friction bearing).When no bearing material is between the various moving parts of a hinge.
2.2 Butt Hinge See Full Mortise Hinge
2.3Detention Hinge A hinge having higher security atributes than conventional hinges and subject to more stringent tests.These hinges are usually constructed with a maximum security pin.Alternate designs which meet the higher security attributes are acceptable.
2.4Full Mortise HingeAhinge having one leaf mortised into the hinge edge ofadoor and the other leaf mortised into the rabbet of a frame.
2.5FullSurface Hinge A hinge having one leaf attached to the face ofa doorand the otherleaf attached to the face of a door frame.
2.6Half Mortise Hinge A hinge having one leaf mortised into the hinge edge ofadoor and the other leaf attached to the face of a door frame.
2.7Half Surface Hinge A hinge having one leaf atached to the face of adoor and the other leaf mortised into the rabbet ofadoor frame.
2.8Hospital Tips A hinge barrel having sloped ends.
2.9Maximum Security Pin (MSP)A hinge pin that has been fixed after insertion by welding,pinning,or other permanent means to prevent hinge pin removal without the use of special tools.Set screws are not permitted.Affords greater security than a Non-Removable Pin.
2.10 Non-Removable Pin (NRP)A hinge pin secured by a set screw or other equivalent means and affords less security than the Maximum Security Pin.This modification is intended as a deterrent only.
2.11 Olive Knuckle Hinge A pivot hinge with a joint shaped like an olive.
2.12Pivot HingeA hinge with a fixed pinand a single joint having a height less than the adjacent hing leaves.
2.13Raised Barrel A full mortise hinge having an offset barrel.
2.14Reverse Safety Stud A projecting memberon the back of each full mortise leaf that engagesa hole in the door and jamb hinge reinforcing plates.
2.15 Safety Stud A projecting member on one surface ofa fullmortise hinge leaf that engages a hole in the opposite leaf when the door is closed.
BHMAA156.1 -2006 Hinge
2.16Slip-In HingeA hinge where oneor both leaves slide intoacavity prepared ina dooror door frame thusconcealing one or both hinge leaves.
2.17 Swaging Offseting a hinge leaf at the barrel so the surface of the leaf is not tangent to the outer diameterof the barrel.
2.18 Swing Clear Hinge A hinge that swings a door completely clear of the opening when the door is opened 90 to 95degrees.
3. GENERAL
3.1Bearing SurfacesAnti-friction bearings shall beused in Grades 1and2 for standard and heavy weight hinges.
3.2Fastenings All products shallbe complete with screws,bolts,or other fastenings,as required and of size necessary for application and shall be compatible with the product as to finish and material.
3.3Swaging The clearance between the leaves of full mortise hinges when closed to the parallel position shall be 1 / 1 6 ± 1 / 6 4 in ( 1 . 6 ± 0 . 4 {mm } ) unless specifically noted otherwise.
3.4Stainless Steel PinsAllstandardand heavy weight non-ferrous type hinges of Grades 1,2,and 3 shall be equipped with stainless steel pins.Protruding heads of any material of stainless steel pins shall match finish of hinge.
3.5Non-rising Loose Pins Pins shallbe removable without damaging exposed surfaces of the hinge or tip and shall be retained bymeans thatofer effectiveresistance to movementof thepin from itsseat,but allows the pin to be removed by moderate force.
3.6Options Hinges listed are permited to be equipped with the following options (consult individual manufacturerscatalogs):

BS EN 1935 classfies door furniture by using an 8 digit coding system.A similar classification applies to all building hardware product standardsso that complementary items of hardware can be specified to, for instance,a common level of corrosion resistance, category of use,etc.Each digit refers toa particular feature of the product measured against the standard's performance requirements.
The ABHM recommends the use of graphic icons to enhance clarity of information and has devised a system to facilitate assimilation of the various product classifications. Five grades of corrosion resistance are identified in accordance with EN 1670:
- grade O: no defined corrosion resistance.
- grade 1: mild resistance.
- grade 2: moderate resistance.

Precautionsforinstallation
1. Use the right door bottom strap.Avoid modifying the spindle.(Figure 1)
2.DO NOT use rivet to secure door bottom strap to door panel. (Figure 1)
3.DO NOT remove dustproof cover strown in Figure 2.
4.Fasten the Horizontal/Lateral screwsafter you have adjusted the floor hinge to the correct position.(Figure 3)
5.Speed adjustment valve.(Figure 3) ·Turn valve clockwise:reduce speed ·Turn valve anti clockwise:increase speed
