Wenaas ID representsanewchapterin protective footwear.What startedasanidea-adesiretodevelopasafetyshoewithbetter ergonomicsandhighersustainability-has,throughseveral years offocusedresearch,becomeashoethatfeels likeatrainer,yet protectsthewayasafetyshoeshould.

Theresearchproject,calledLightfoot,initiallyfocused onreducingweightandminimizingenvironmental impact.TheresultwasWenaasID,developedwiththe integratedcomfortsystemInLet.Alongtheway，the researchrevealedsomethingcrucial:reducedweight alone has little effect on energy consumption.A differenceof1o0gramsaccountsforonlyaboutonepercent Thisshiftedthedirectionofdevelopment-fromweight tohowtheshoe'sconstructionactuallyaffectsstrain, comfort,and performance throughouta long workday.

Aunique research and development project Toidentifythe rightsolutions, the projectwascarried outinclose collaborationwith SlNTEF,Europe's largest manufacturerofsafetyfootwear,Orion,aswellasin

dustrial partnerssuchasAkerBP,Equinor,andOneCo, withsupportfromtheResearchCouncilofNorway. Overfouryears,andwithatotalinvestmentofmore thanNOk10million,extensiveanalyses,laboratory testing,andusertrialsunderrealworkingconditions wereconducted.

SINTEF carried out in-depthuserstudiesto identify the greatestchallengesassociatedwith long-termuseof safety footwear.Conceptsand prototypeswere tested bothinlaboratoriesanddirectlywithusers-offshore andonshore.Theresultisaresearch-basedproduct developedwithgenuineuserinsight,andasafetyshoe thatsetsanewstandardforcomfort,functionalityand sustainability.

WenaasFitLacingSystem (WFL) isanadvanced lacingsystem developed to optimize fit, stability, andloaddistributioninworkfootwear.Thesystemisdesignedasa furtherdevelopmentoftraditional lacesolutionsanddial-based lacing systems,withastrongfocusonergonomicsand individualadjustment

WFLusesa laceconfigurationthat enablesprecise heel lock inthe rearoftheshoe,whiletheforefoot lacingallowscontrolledadaptation tothefoot'swidthandvolume.The resultisreducedheelslip，increased stability,and moreevenpressure distributionacross the instepand forefoot.

Thesystemcontributesto improved biomechanical support during walkingandstandingwork,andcan reducemuscularfatigue inthe foot, ankle,andcalfduringprolonged use.WFLisparticularlywellsuited toproviding footstability, individualized fit,and long-lasting comfort.

New toe cap and advanced materials -developed for demanding industrial use

Wenaas IDisdevelopedwithanewand improvedtoe cap that combines highsafetywith increased comfort and freedom of movement.The asymmetric design provides more room for the toesand a more natural fit, while theangledshape towardthe instepreduces pres sure and delivers noticeably better comfort一especially inworksituationswhere thewearerkneelsandworks close to the ground.

Using statistical tools (regression analysis)andbiomechanical analyses,SiNTEFmappedhowthe shoe'sconstructionandthe InLet systemaffecttheloadonthefoot. TwodifferentInLetdensities-Soft andMedium-weretested,andboth showedasignificantandstatistically provenreductioninpressureand forcesontheheelcomparedtoother well-knownsafetyshoemodels includedinthetest.

ThetestsalsodocumentedthatWenaasIDwithMediumInLetperforms consistentlyandreliablyacrossall weightclasses，deliveringhighcomfortandshockabsorptionregardless of load.

InLet-comfort and support ona new level

InLetis notatraditionalinsole,butan integratedand replaceablepartof the shoe'sconstruction.Itfunctions as aload-relief platform inside the shoe andis designedto reduce stress on both the heeland forefootthroughout the entire workday.

Reducing pressure on the heel isone ofthe most important measures for preventing musculoskeletal disorders. Achieving lower pressureis dificult through minoradjustments to traditional insoles,but with acompletely new approach to safety footwear construction-usingan InLetof running-shoequality,adapted fordemanding work environments-the results become clear.

Dyneema?

Dyneema@ is an extremely strong yet very lightweight fiber,developed through advanced material technology. It is up to 15 times stronger than steel by weight,yet so light that it floats on water.This provides a unique combination of low weight and high strength.

The fiber is designed for demanding applications and contributes to:

allowing your foot to use less energywhen walking.The sole contains no hard layers between the PU outsole and the insole,yet it stil protects your foot against nails and sharp objects that may penetrate the outsole.
Puncture Block has passed the
puncture resistance test using new 3 mm nails,in accordance with the requirementsofEN20345 (latest standard).

And for those who care about the environment-this sole is a sustainable solution, produced from environmentally friendlymaterials.

{ \mathsf { H D r y } } ^ { \otimes } isourwaterproof membrane system.The membrane functions like a sock that is laminated directly to the leather.This sock hasno seams that could create small holes in the membrane and cause leakage.This method of attaching the sock ensures that there are no bulges or wrinkles in the shoe's membrane/lining.

Inaddition,this construction prevents moisture from accumulating between the liningand the outer leather一a common issue with other technologies.The result is dry feet throughout the entire workday.

Thematerial isprimarilyused on high-cut footwear exposed to increased stress,such as work in drilling mud,wet environments,and repeateddryingcycles. Unlike traditional leather, the material withstands repeated wetting and drying without loss of strength or function.
