衡阳市位于湖南省中南部，全市总面积1.53万平方公里，辖5县2市5区，总人口649.7万，雅称“雁城”。2021年7月22日，中共中央国务院《发布关于新时代推动中部地区高质量发展的意见》，衡阳被定为中部区域重点城市。衡阳在中部地区崛起中大有作为。
Hengyang, also known as "Wild Goose City", is located in the south-central region of Hunan Province, with a total area of 15,300 square kilometers and a total population of 6.497 million. Under its jurisdiction, there are 5 counties, 2 county-level cities and 5 districts. On July 22, 2021, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued the Opinions on Promoting High-Quality Development in the Central Region in the New Era, and Hengyang was designated as a key city in the central region. Therefore,Hengyang will play a significant role in the rise of the central region.

In 2023, Hengyang sent out 62 China-Europe (Central Asia) Railway Express trains with a total cargo value of CNY 2.169 billion, a year-on-year increase of 50%; and sent out 80 Hunan-Guangdong-Africa Rail-Sea Express trains with a total cargo value of CNY 512 million, a year-on-year increase of 32.4%.

The First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China
Hengyang ranked second in the province in total medical resources, with 7.78 hospital beds per 1,000 people and the basically established 15-minute health service circle. Rapid Development of Cross-border E-commerce
Hengyang was successfully approved to set up the "China (Hengyang) Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone" in November 2022, adding another "national-level" pilot platform. In 2023, the import and export volume of cross-border e-commerce in Hengyang reached CNY 1.637 billion. Export products range from day-lily buds, footwear ceramics to e-books, Bluetooth speakers, batteries, extra-high-voltage large-capacity transformers, and steel pipes. The export scale of products made in Hengyang continues to expand, with an increasing value added.

先后建成衡阳综合保税区、广州港衡阳“无水港”、衡阳铁路监管区等开放平台。率先在全省设立首家驻外商务代表处，依托特变电工等优势企业在境外的常设办事机构，在科特迪瓦和菲律宾等国设立衡阳市人民政府驻西非商务代表处和驻菲律宾商务代表处。目前，衡阳中欧（中亚）班列已稳健运行，目的地为俄罗斯、蒙古和中亚地区，运送货物主要为衡阳及周边地区所产的钢管、电器和日用品，运行规模仅次于长沙，居全省第二。2022年4月26日，开通湘粤非铁海联运衡阳集结中心，进一步加快了衡阳外向型企业“走出去”。

衡阳产业基础雄厚，是全国26个老工业基地之一、湖南先进制造业基地。在抗战时期，衡阳是国统区三大重要经济城市之一，对全国的工商税收贡献仅次于上海，被称为“小上海”。从1949年新中国成立到上世纪80年代，衡阳的GDP占全省三分之一，总产值一度超过省会城市长沙。现有1545家规上工业企业（其中，制造业领域拥有百亿级企业1家、五十亿级以上企业3家、十亿级以上企业18家，国家制造业单项冠军企业（产品）2个，省级及以上专精特新“小巨人”企业97家。）、54万余户市场主体、50万产业工人，已形成了完善的工业产业体系。

衡阳是全国有名的“有色金属之乡”“非金属之乡”“鱼米之乡”“油茶之乡”。已发现矿产69种，探明资源储量矿种57种。水口山铅锌矿被誉为“世界铅都”，钠长石储量居亚洲之首，岩盐储量居华南之冠，是全国重要的商品粮、商品油、商品猪生产基地。
Hengyang is the country's famous "Home of Non-ferrous Metals", "Home of Nonmetals", "Land of Fish and Rice"and "Land of Camellia Oleifera". So far, 69 types of minerals have been discovered, in which 57 of them with proved reserves. The Shuikoushan lead-zinc mine is hailed as the "lead capital of the world". Hengyang is home to Asia's largest albite reserves and southern China's largest rock salt reserves, and it is an important production base of commodity grains, commercial oils, and fatten pigs in China.

衡阳综合保税区于2012年10月25日经国务院批复同意设立。2013年12月13日通过国家十部委验收，2014年9月9日正式封关运行。它是全国第三十家、中部第三家、湖南省首家综合保税区，规划面积0.85平方公里，已建成围网面积0.66平方公里。
综保区坚持以新发展理念为引领，充分发挥对外开放平台功能优势，以推进产业链发展为核心，调整产业结构，构建多业态发展格局。它致力于打造加工制造中心、仓储物流中心、现代服务贸易中心，大力发展保税加工、保税物流、跨境电商、进口展示和检测维修等外贸业务，奋力成为现代产业强市建设的重要生力军和对外开放的新高地。

Hengyang Baisha Green Island High-tech Industrial Development Zone
衡阳白沙绿岛高新技术产业开发区是湖南省委、省政府与中核集团战略合作，共同推进核技术应用产业在湖南落地的主要载体，是全国仅有的两个国防科技工业JMRH创新示范基地之一，也是国内唯一以核技术应用为特色的省级高新区。
白沙绿岛高新区位于衡阳市中心城区南向发展主轴之上，园区陆地面积47平方公里，辖8个行政村，共有1.6万人。东以京广铁路为界，南、西、北三面湘江环绕。中欧班列湘南编组站、东阳渡干吨级码头均位于园区内。
白沙绿岛高新区围绕“一主一特一辅”的业体系建设，其中，以先进装备制造业为主导产业，核技术应用产业为特色产业，现代物流产业为辅助产业。园区内现有企业包括中核二七二铀业有限公司、湖南核工业宏华机械有限公司、湖南中核金原新材料有限公司和湖南红光物流有限公司等。
