本产品安装在横担上，扭紧螺母即可，等同传统的绝缘子的安装方法，把引弧棒朝向负荷侧，这时，导线的外层应紧靠线槽底部，穿刺齿应刺穿导线的绝缘层与导线的内部导电层紧密连接，在线夹座外部安装绝缘护罩，用固定扣固定绝缘护罩。见以上安装示意图。

随着电力的线路改造绝缘化，传统的设计，由于绝缘线路有先天不足的耐雷水平，难以承受直接雷或感应雷的作用，雷击断线已经成为电力面临的又一个难题。穿刺式防弧金具的出现，解决了这一难体，它具有安装简便（无需剥除绝缘层）。其原理为：将该金具安装在线路绝缘子附近的绝缘导线上，当雷电过电压超过一定数值时，在防雷金具的穿刺电极和接地电极之间引起闪络，形成短路通道，接续的工频电弧便在防雷金具上燃烧，以保护导线免于烧伤。

穿刺式防弧金具，由穿刺电极、接地电极和绝缘罩三部分组成。
