THE HANS JOACHIM HOMMCOLLECTION OF CARPETS
PART ONE TO BE SOLD WITHOUT RESERVE
HANS JOACHIM HOMM
One of Hans Joachim Homm (Hajo)'s frst encounters with oriental rugs began when he was 15. A traveller came to the family home offering to sell some oriental rugs. The prices asked by the gypsy woman where huge and the rugs were modern commercial pieces. The Homm family already owned rugs and carpets and Hajo realised that his parents' collection was vastly superior and valuable. He also realised that he could make money from buying rugs and carpets and began, as a hobby to study how they were made. This also led to him learning to restore them. Homm developed a good eye for what to buy and his South German neighbourhood proved a rich picking ground. Over the years his passion turned into a successful business, and he travelled widely through Europe, America and Asia in pursuit of his passion. He remains fascinated by the subject.
The Homm collection offered by Woolley and Wallis has been put together over many years and is now offered in twoparts.
