This lot features a plate with an everted rim and a shallow curved body. The white glaze is lustrous, the blue. and-white is elegant, and the wucai colors are vibrant. The center of the dish depicts two red fish surrounded by lotus and waterweeds; one fish appears to leap upward, symbolizing the aspiration of a fish jumping over the dragon gate, while the other swims leisurely below. The inner and outer walls are each adorned with five red fish swimming among waterweeds and duckweed, with the weeds swaying dynamically and interspersed with floral motifs. The fish are outlined in red, with scales detailed and bodies shaded in light red, their plump forms and varied swimming postures symbolizing "abundance and wealth" and "surplus year after year." The base bears a four-character seal mark in underglaze blue, "Zai Chuan Zhi Le" (Knowing Joy in the Stream), written in double columns within a double-square frame in regular script.
Most Kangxi imperial kiln wares bear Jiajing reign marks, making this piece with the "Zai Chuan Zhi Le" inscription exceptionally rare and precious. The inscription derives from Zhuangzi's saying: "You are not a fish, how do you know the joy of fish? You are not me, how do you know I don't know the joy of fish?" This type of inscription is extremely scarce in the auction market over the past two decades, with complete examples being even rarer. numbering only a handful. This piece has a hairline crack on the rim and a minor chip on the footring, but these minor flaws do not detract from its significant historical and rare value.
